BAP Presidents (1981-2011)

The new outlook of BAP website impressed me immensely. I can’t resist myself to write something about BAP. Ever wonder how time passed by, but still BAP has been promoting Bengali culture and awareness by hosting cultural and religious program for the last thirty years. BAP is now thirty one years old. Our thirty first president is Dr PARTHA BASU. The recent blog posting by Mausumi Mukherjee drew my attention. Yes Mausumi I agree with you. After so many years, we are still undivided. We celebrate only one Durga Puja, and only one Saraswati Puja. In a big city like Pittsburgh we have only one strong organization – that is our BAP. We are proud of our BAP. No wonder we share a special bond that nobody else does. That doesn’t mean we don’t have any disagreement. But we don’t let that disagreement turn into a major conflict which can divide our BAP.

I have been living here for the last thirty three years. I saw many presidents who showed their strong leadership to continue our organization. Those who are new probably don’t know the name of the previous presidents. It was my curiosity to make a list of the past presidents. Last February few of us met in Nidrita Sinha’s house for her son’s birthday. Our current president was present there. While we were talking we just started to collect the name of the past presidents. I took the initiative. Of course, I got some help. The most help came from Sonali Ghosh. I was amazed to see her strong memory.

Thank you Mausumi. Yes it should be Sanjoy Das (Sr) instead of Sanjoy Ghosh (Sr). I did the correction. He was the third president of BAP. The year was 1983. Thanks again! Lipika Ray

This article is very well written ! Specially I like the idea of publishing the names of all the presidents who served for last few years. I agree with Lipidi that our biggest strength is we are ONE association and we are always together no matter what. There will be difference in opinion and interests but we are always united together and work together. I consider this as the biggest strength of our community and I respect the values that we have. I hope we will continue to do the same in future and share the same values with our children and next generations!
