PITTSBURGH LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK

Hello, I am Nandini, and am a proud member of Bengali Association of Pittsburgh since 1996.
As most of you know, I was diagnosed with Acute Mylogenous Leukemia or AML in 2009. I am a survivor, following a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. It has been 18 months since the transplant, medications are still continuing, and I still have no immunity.
However, there are less fortunate ones, and each year more and more are being struck by - BLOOD CANCER!This all powerful disease spares no one.
The Western PA and WV Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is organizing their 13th Annual Light the Night Walk , on Wednesday, October 5, at Heinz Field, North Shore, 5:30pm.
This moving evening celebrates the patients, survivors, and mourns those we have lost. Funds are raised for local patient financial aid, support programs, and critically -needed research for treatments and cures. The walk starts around 7:30pm.This non-competitive 1.9 mile walk is followed by fireworks. There are free food, kids' activities. It is over by 9pm.
I shall be a part of this event this year, walking with a white illuminated balloon( survivor). My team is called TEAM NANDINI.
Participants must raise $25 to carry a red illuminated balloon and raise $100+ to obtain a walk shirt. The red and white balloons represent the red and white blood cells.
Visit www.lightthenight.org for more details and to register. You can look for me under " find a team" type in my name, donate , or register to be a team member. You can donate for any one of my team members too. Each walker has to raise at least $25.00. My goal is to raise $500.00

Let us join together light the night sky with the hope of eradicating blood cancer in our life time.
Please try to be there with me and my daughters - as a team.
And HURRY, as time is running out for many out there.

Thank you,
Nandini
