Run for India

Hi,

My name is Smita Mukherjee and I am a recent member of BAP.

I wanted to let you know that I am running in Pittsburgh's relay marathon on May 15, 2011 in order to raise funds for Association for India's Development (AID).

AID was started in 1991 by graduate students at University of Maryland. Since then it has come a long way, with more than 1000 volunteers in 45 chapters worldwide mainly in India and the USA. AID was based on a unique model that utilizes the intellectual and financial resources that Indians living in the USA have to benefit the less privileged financially and socially bottom-most rung of society back in India. AID does this by putting these parties, otherwise separated by distance and circumstance, in touch with each other through grassroots-level organizations working in India. AID volunteers in USA invite, evaluate and fund proposals from such organizations in India and work closely with them over several years. AID supports grassroots organizations and social causes in India and initiates efforts in various interconnected spheres such as education, livelihoods, natural resources, health, women's empowerment and social justice.

Please visit http://www.aidindia.org/main/ for more information on AID.

I request and urge you to make a donation for AID. I am sure that every dollar I raise through donations will go towards financially supporting a deserving organization or a social movement in India. Please feel free to email me at smitamukherji@yahoo.com if you want to know more about the projects AID is currently sponsoring. If you would like to consider donating money towards my goal of raising funds for AID, please visit my webpage:
